Our Story

Pain doesn't disqualify you from purpose.

Phoenix Rising Treatment was founded by Jeff and Kristin Penrose in June 2019. Ryan Evans later joined the team and, with Jeff and Kristin's full support, built out the structure that defines the program today: the accountability, the daily rhythm, and the way each house actually runs.

The Beginning

Recovery Days 2019

“Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes” is something Ryan says every day, and now it's something we all say. So is “You vs. You.” The person staring back at you in the mirror is your only competition.

How we grew

Sober living began with two houses and sixteen men, and there were plenty of ups and downs along the way. But the program kept growing: from two houses to three, then four, then five. Then came the big step, and treatment was next.

We added Terry Begay as Clinical Director. Her vast experience, from the U.S. Air Force to law enforcement to the hospital industry, brought a much-needed component to the program, and slowly we began building the team we have today.

Felipe Ruiz is a graduate from within our own walls. He went through Recovery Court and graduated from Epic, then came to our sober living. Today he is a leader of House 4, part of our staff as a case manager, and one of the most reliable people we have. Courtney Averrett, with her master's degree and her incredible drive to help others, brings a history of working with people struggling with addiction, and with women who were trafficked, and she adds a fire to this team. Corinne Meikle is another success story. She has been out of prison for seven years and has used that time well: becoming a therapist who is a real asset to our team, working toward her master's degree, and being a loving wife and an incredible mother.

Jared Banuelos loves to teach and is focused on helping others break free of their mental prison. From the moment he walked in, he has shown up and given his clients, and each one of us, his absolute best. Marissa Penrose, our admissions coordinator and a graduate of UVU, handles everything we throw at her. And Bridger Ogden walked into a challenge and took it on: better groups, stronger structure, and a smoother-running treatment program. He has been an incredible asset to the Phoenix Rising team, and we are all starting to catch our stride.

Leadership

Led by people who've done the work — on both sides of it

Our team has the experience to walk alongside every person who comes through our doors. We care deeply, and we run this program with structure, accountability, and big hearts.

Meet the Team

Faith, without the pressure

Purpose and redemption matter here — whatever you believe, or don't.

Faith shapes the language we use around purpose, redemption, and meaningful connection, but it is never a condition of your bed, your program, or your progress. Residents of any faith background, or none, go through this program side by side.
